The current COVID-19 pandemic poses a serious challenge to workers' compensation systems around the country and to the employees and employers who rely upon those systems. Reports from experts have predicted that around the Country thousands of workers will lose their lives due to COVID-19 and many thousands more will lose time from work and need medical attention for work-related COVID-19 illness. In New York State, claims for death and disability benefits are already being filed. In this presentation, we will discuss how the workers' compensation system in New York State may respond to the COVID-19 claims.
