This course will include practical discussion regarding how to research, investigate, and litigate cases on behalf of incarcerated persons who suffer violence or abuse, and people who are wrongfully prosecuted and convicted. Topics will also include how to overcome the unique challenges and pitfalls associated with denial of serious medical needs and failure to protect from violent assaults, the limitations of qualified and absolute immunity, and the scope of Monell municipal liability.
